Rodent Control Questions and Answers

The questions Pittsburgh callers ask most. Don't see yours? Call, or look through the services and guides.

Questions and Answers

Who actually comes to my house?

An independent, licensed pest control company. We're the phone line. They do the inspection and the work.

How much is this going to cost?

Depends on the house, the rodent and how much sealing it needs. The company quotes it. The cost guide explains what moves the number.

How do I know if it's rats or mice?

Look at the droppings. Mouse droppings are rice-sized with pointed ends. Rat droppings are about three-quarters of an inch and capsule-shaped. More in the signs guide.

Why are the mice always worse in the fall?

Cold nights push them out of yards and hillsides into warm basements and walls. Sealing before it gets cold is the fix.

Can I just put rat poison down myself?

Don't spread loose poison. It can hurt kids, pets and wildlife, and rodents die in the walls. Pros use locked, tamper-resistant stations.

What's the right way to clean up droppings?

Gloves, spray with disinfectant, let it soak a few minutes, wipe with paper towels. Never sweep or vacuum them dry. For a big mess, there's professional cleanup.

Can rats really come up my basement toilet or floor drain?

In older houses with cracked laterals or open drains, yes. Mention it when you call. The basement page has more.

I rent. Can I call?

Yes, but in a lot of leases rodents are the landlord's job. Check your lease and talk to them.

Is there a guarantee?

Warranties come from the company that does the work, not from us. Ask before you agree to anything.

Do you answer the phone around the clock?

No. The line is answered during normal business hours.
